Why I stepped out of my One Billion Rising South... →
By Gillian Schutte
For those who have asked why I have stepped out of the role of coordinator for One Billion Rising South Africa. Here is my response to both personal issues and the wider issues.
I have ideological differences with the international office, which are in the body outlined below. While I support the ethos of dance and protest I cannot work within the organisational expectations...

Dear Friends & Community, We are writing to let you know of a community member who needs support after going through a major health crisis. Many of you know Egyptt, a long time activist and advocate for low income, trans communities of color. Egyptt was formerly co-coordinator of Trans Justice at the Audre Lorde Project. Prior to her...

In the 1960s and 1970s, queer liberation (what we now call “LGBT equality”) was seen by its advocates as an all-inclusive movement intrinsically bound to other social justice movements: there could be no justice for queer people without justice for people of color, women, workers, those in other nations, etc. Accordingly, queer activistsworked hard to...

An Open Letter to Eve Ensler
chiefelk:
Dear Eve Ensler,
I want to start off by saying thank you. I appreciate the time you took to reach out to me, because I know you’re incredibly busy. I know there are much more important people in this world than myself, so I appreciate you engaging in dialogue with me and my colleague Kelleigh Driscoll.
This all started because on Twitter, I addressed some issues that I had with...

Ta-Nehisi Coates writes on a foul 1950’s housing market practice that ropped black wealth and helped set the conditions for the current racial wealth gap.

A Quick Post on Tracking/Banning IPs on Tumblr
These are just a couple of things that I know of for stuff like this. If you have any other useful tools, please send them in and I’ll add them to this post. This post will just cover Statcounter and an IP redirector.

So, first things first:
Statcounter
Statcounter is a website that lets you track visitors on your website for free. All you have to do is register your account...

When men talk of women and girls in terms of legal/not legal, what they’re really saying is “I already sexually objectify this child and would attempt to fuck her if there were no laws in the way.”
You can’t deny that is fucking scary.
A message:
“I think a post on how to install a statcounter/IP tracking/IP blocking would be EXTREMELY useful (in the resources tag). Just this week, myself and several other bloggers had to install one. Or a general post on how to “augment” our safety, since our safety often comes under fire.”
Does anyone have a tutorial/resource for IP blocking? I use statcounter myself, but...
We now have an F.A.Q. and a tags page!
(I only got it done so quickly because there was so little.)

a reply:
A resources tag would work well. IDR if there is one currently.
I was thinking of a resources tag since we’ve posted a few lists and such. If anyone else thinks of something, send a message. I’ll start working on the resources tag now (lucky we only have a couple hundred posts).
-Félix
I’ve gone through and added tags to all the messages we’ve gotten on this blog so far. You can find them under /tagged/ask.
My question is, would you all like a tagging system to be implemented somehow? Would that be helpful in any way? I only tagged asks because it seems that we’ve gotten a couple of questions that have already been answered, but people might not wanna go...

Anonymous asked: Hey, so I'm a cis, queer, white, able-bodied woman and I'm a feminist and I love this blog, it's important and it's brilliant. The thing is though, the last few posts have made me feel like I shouldn't be here, like I should just keep my mouth shut and stop campaigning. I know, I know, poor little white girl, but it is upsetting when I really want this to be a world where...

A woman of color’s self-love is political and radical, and it is unsettling for the status quo because she is choosing bravely to dismantle the narratives of racist aesthetics against her. So when people bully a girl of color for being content and satisfied with her appearance - a reality that is subjected to racist, sexist slurs in cosmetic industries - and when they tell her to...

Tangentially related to that previous post, I wanted to write a little about something but felt too shy or unable to articulate exactly how I felt. Or rather, I don’t know how I feel.
I was asked why I “hashtag chubby” my photo posts. It was sort of connected to a conversation where I was being (lovingly) ribbed for taking so many photos of myself. The answer I gave at the time...
