The fact that ignorant rock fans, especially ignorant rock fans from the UK, seem to NOT understand that black folks created rock in the first fucking place and that their white faves were directly fucking influenced by the music of black rock/r&b musicians is so fucking infuriating.
I feel like I’m constantly getting into arguments with people who seem to have this perpetual cultural amnesia. And so much of it reeks of some racist bullshit, because lbr black folks have had a massive influence on almost every single popular genre of music: Rock, pop, etc. So almost every fucking criticism that some greasy white kid on the internet—especially ones from the UK who act as though the only good music ever comes from that fucking nation—has on popular music originating from the states, accompanied with the complete fucking disregard of the contributions that black americans have to their favorite genre in the first fucking place, just comes off as really fucking offensive. I’m not saying that these people are flat out saying LOL BLACK PPL MAKE BAD MUSIC LOL but it is so heavily implied with the constant crit of black dominated genres and blatantly ignoring black contributions to their favorite genres.
Also, rock music snobs who have so much disdain for all other genres of music are the fucking worst. Why are people over the age of 14 breaking down what they like and don’t like purely by generalized genres like Rock/Pop/Hip-Hop? That’s some fuckin middle school bullshit.
I really wish I was more eloquent than I am rn but this is a rant so bye.
