Is that the moment people speak up and criticize Rookie, or Girl Guts, or anything else along those lines, ranks of angry defensive followers surge up and scream “At least feminism is getting through to people!!1! and “How dare you spread grrrl hate?1?!?1” and other such nonsense.
And I’m just sitting here shaking my head and sighing…
Because what the fuck happened to feminism meaning self reflexive criticality?
Look at first wave… second wave… pretty much all of third wave… when did ignoring faults, mistakes, and gaping holes in logic, do anything for anyone except cis white women?
If you wanna be a fucking feminist, you have to be self critical.
All feminism is not created equal
If you refuse to give your fellow feminists a place to speak, if you silence PoC, trans* individuals, and other groups that do not have able bodied cis white woman privileges, you are doing NOTHING for feminism, and I will place you in the same category as radical feminists, oh and riot grrrl.
There is a vast difference between attacking feminism because one is a mens rights activist, and speaking against feminism and feminist movements and groups as an individual whose voice deserves to and must be heard.
Until feminism becomes self critical, its still gonna just be wet dreaming of intersectionallity while draping itself in flower crowns that reek of exclusion and privilege.
